Serie di Ricostruzione

Serie di Ricostruzione (Reconstruction Series) is a series of three ceramic vases inspired by Monte Testaccio. Monte Testaccio is an artificial landmass of ancient Roman pottery. Located next to the Tiber River, the methodically structured mountain consists of roughly 53 million discarded amphora. A large 70 liter oil amphora, known as the Dressel 20, is most prevalent on the site.

The Reconstruction Series demonstrates how the iconic features of an amphora can retain their original meaning despite physical separation. Each of the three vases represents a distinct feature of the Dressel 20 amphora: the lip, handles, and body. The vases respond to one another in form, color, surface treatment, and proportion, but the implied connection is unresolved until viewed from the front. The complete amphora silhouette is revealed from this perspective as the viewer’s eye reconstructs and combines the three vases into one form.
